SYNOPSIS

TYING THE KNOT tells three different but related stories of same sex couples who meet, form life bonds, and then suffer tragically later as a result of not being able to become legally married.  In one story, a young gay couple have lived and owned businesses together; when one of them suffers a brain injury and is in a coma, the partner loses decision and visitation rights to the injured partner’s angry brother.  The second story is about a lesbian couple wherein one of the partners has a young daughter; when the birth mother dies, her angry mother refuses to let the surviving partner have any access or custody of the child, ultimately making the child the one who suffers.  The third story is about an aging gay couple; when one of them dies, the surviving partner is left with bills and debts but no access to his dead partner’s pension funds.
